Busy Wetherspoon pub in the town centre with a good selection of beers - often from smaller breweries. A ramp and steps provide access to the large raised section at the rear. The pub's name recalls the ancient inn, The George & Dragon, which stood nearby and was referenced as far back as the 15th century. Alcohol is served on all days from 9am. The George was closed for several weeks for refurbishment, reopening on 31 July 2026. The changes saw the removal of the additional bar counter at the rear to provide more seating, fresh paintwork and a new carpet.
